PA-KO PLANTATION QUAIL HUNT

Our Price: $0.00

This is a fully guided hunting trip to a private plantation in the heart of Alabama quail country. ‍

LODGING
‍ Unlike many "hunt destinations," Pa-Ko Plantation operates from a rich, unbroken family heritage. Hospitality has come first since the 1950s, when Paul and Kookie Messham began to nurture their 5,000 central Alabama acres for the hunting enjoyment of fellow industrialists and friends. ‍ Today's quail, turkey and deer hunters still enjoy southern cooking served on family china. Modern conveniences are so unobtrusive you'll swear you've stepped back in time, to wingshooting in the real Old South.
‍ The Lodge is pure Old South simplicity. You'll enjoy down-home dining, evening gatherings around the hearth or outdoor fire pit, trading stories at the fully stocked bar or over a game of pool. Everyone leaves well-fed and remarking about our famous peanut brittle. That last piece of pie will be served by our legendary cook, Savannah—just one of many staff you'll know on a first-name basis. ‍ The guest cabins are newly constructed to provide modern convenience in an Old South setting. Private baths and Wi-Fi access come with each. ‍

HUNTING
‍ Pa-Ko devotes as much attention to its plantation environment as it does to its guests. That adds up to an unrivalled hunting experience, no matter what your interests or level of expertise. ‍
‍ The land has been managed for abundance since Pa-Ko's inception. Stands of planted pine, plus the deft use of controlled burns, produce prime quail hunting habitat.‍
‍ Plantation owner J. Paul Taylor knows every inch of land, every seasonal change. He evaluates each group's specific interests and capabilities, then aligns those with current Alabama hunting conditions, recent wildlife movement, and more. You can count on being in trusted hands with expert guides. ‍
‍ Nothing gets the blood pumping like traditional upland bird hunting at Pa-Ko. All the elements of great Alabama quail hunting—plentiful coveys, exceptional dogs, plus unlimited gunning—are provided in an untamed setting. Except for modern conveniences like our quail wagon, you might be stepping back a hundred years.‍
‍ The plantation has perfected a method of breeding Bobwhite for release months before the season opens Oct. 1. Result: strong, high-flying birds indistinguishable from our wild population. ‍
‍ Dozens of coveys rise in a single hunt. Wingshooting is unlimited. At hunt's end, each hunter will receive one dozen Alabama quail cleaned, packaged and frozen for transport.‍

DOGS
‍ At Pa-Ko Plantation, their dogs are their pride. Pa-Ko's handlers, renowned for training dogs throughout the Southeast, assure you of eager and disciplined pointers, English setters and Irish setters. A red setter breeding program has been pioneered to produce superior birders. In the field, your brace of dogs will be rotated so they stay fresh.
‍ If you would like, you may bring your own dog to Pa-Ko. ‍

DINING
‍ Local cooks who understand traditional Southern cuisine are enlisted to prepare bountiful meals. Meals are a particular delight as Pa-Ko has their own garden where vegetables are picked and served with dinner and eggs are gathered daily from their chicken coop. Breakfasts typically include eggs, grits, homemade biscuits, preserves, country ham, bacon and sausage. Dinners feature quail, venison, fresh vegetables and homemade pecan pie. ‍
