Filson heavyweight sweaters are knit using twice as much wool as you'd expect in sweaters of this type. They use only 100% Merino wool from hardy sheep renowned for long, fine wool that's soft yet strong. Those strong wool fibers are carded and combed in parallel fashion, then twisted hard during spinning to create worsted yarns of even more strength and smoothness. Finally, they knit those yarns very tightly for a firm finish that wears extremely well.

This naturally water repellent sweater is made with special features that make it ideal for the outdoorsman: such as the padded shooting patch, the Shelter Cloth shoulder covering to prevent wear from carrying straps, and the stand-up collar and button front to control temperature. Plus, the specially milled, tightly knit Merino worsted wool yarns that give this sweater a firm finish that wears extremely well. This finish not only makes this sweater a delight to wear, but it actually enhances the natural water repellent properties of the wool fibers, and retains body heat even when very wet.
