2011 Upland Hunts
Harrison County, KY (little over an hour from Cincinnati)

March 18 Sunday
This year D&H is having five hunts at Shags-Run in Harrison County, KY. This is the same land we have been shooting over for doves the last couple of seasons. The family farm is a patchwork of abundant crops grown in fertile soil surrounded by hardwood forests. The rolling hills makes for great upland topography. Once again our host, Billy Gerwin, will be on hand to make sure that your day in the field is memorable. The quail and pheasant are in the fields and Billy’s famous setters are ready to work hard for you. Sounds like a great way to spend a crisp Autumn or Winter day!
HUNTING
The hunt is limited to twelve hunters. There will be four guides with dogs. Everyone in the field is considered a hunter and needs the appropriate license. The hunters may arrive at 8am to get their gear organized, meet their guide and fill out all necessary paperwork. The hunt starts at 9am. Lunch is provided after the hunt.
After lunch, hunters may either head home or opt for an “Afternoon Walk”: you will be accompanied by your guide and dog to hunt up any “birds that got away”; no birds will be put out for an Afternoon Walk
“Afternoon Walk” $100 (please inform us before the day of the hunt if you would like this option)
if you would like to sweeten the fields for your walk: $8/quail and $17/ pheasant
DOGS
At Shags-Run, their dogs are their pride. Billy’s focus is on raising English Setter bird dogs from field trial stock; from Hamilton Blue Diamond, Teko Mountain Sunrise, Hytest Skyhawk, and Wild Wing Warrior. The dogs are raised in a caring environment on the family farm. They have the intelligence, instinct and natural ability to run off horse back or a machine one day and hunt in the grouse woods on foot the next. A Shags-Run setter will make a great gentleman's gun dog and companion. Happy to live in kennel or house, as long as a Shags-Run setter is at your side, it couldn't be happier. Plan on taking one home with you!
If you would like, you may bring your own dog to the hunt.
