The Mad River, which lies only 1.5 hrs North of Cincinnati, is a mix between a spring creek and a freestone river. It runs cold enough for nearly 25 miles to provide one of the Midwest's premiere Brown trout Fisheries! It clears quickly and is a perfect size for wading. As it flows straight south from West Liberty on a route to Springfield, the Mad typically is only 1-3 feet deep and with its gravel bottom, provides perfect habitat for many hatches throughout the season and offers dry fly opportunities year round!Whether you are wading in the upper reaches, or drifting down the river by boat, your day will include learning all the tips and tricks to understand how to successfully fish the Mad. A hearty lunch is included and our guides are some of the most knowledgeable folks on the river. I might add your day will include learning about the unique wildlife and the rich history found in the Mad River valley. This is a great trip for all skill levels and the trips can be geared to exactly the kind of trip you want. Perhaps you want to refine your dry fly fishing or maybe you want to chase some bigger fish with streamers, or maybe you want to refresh your nymphing skills before your big trip out west, anyway you want it, we can cater this trip to your needs. The Mad River trip is best suited with 1-2 people but more can be handled on wading trips. The day on the water will include 8 hrs in the water and rod recommendations and equipment needs can be discussed with our guide since different techniques require different flies, rods, lines etc. Once you have booked your date, you will be forwarded the "equipment list" so you'll have everything you need to have a successful day!
